There was a blockade after all!

(Click for galleries)
At 8 o'clock protesters were assembling on the sidewalks of the Erzsébet bridge in Budapest and to the signal of the organizer NOVÁK Előd (which he gave with his side drum) they flow into the car line. The police were expecting this action and interrupted the blockade attempt. The participants were identified and those cars which "accidentally broke down" were removed from the site. The chase after the protesters went on for a few hours in the nearby districts but by 2 o'clock the order was restored. 66 people were arrested.

The demonstration was announced by Kuruc.info a week ago in remembrance of the taxi blockade in 1990 and the Erzsébet bridge blockade in 2002. Their attempt weren't pointless because the traffic broke down in the whole downtown for hours first because of the protesters and then because the police maneuvers.

The taxi blockade. On 25 October 1990 after the first democratic local government elections few taxi drivers went to Heroes' square in Budapest and then to the Parliament where they blocked the roads. This pattern spread like fire in the country and disabled whole Hungary for a few days. The reason of their action was the raise of the fuel prices by 65%, but the real cause was the dissapointment in the first democratic government. Politicians can't agree if it was an organised government overthrow attemt or a spontaneous action.
