A.S.O. (Amaury Sports Organization) announced that the first “Dakar Series” certificated rally which was planned to be held in 2009 will be organised this year because as they say "the aim of the A.S.O. is to enable the competitors of the Dakar, which was cancelled in 2008, to enter a new rally".
The race will start in Budapest on April 20 and cover 3,000 kilometers, will pass through Szováta (Romania)and end near lake Balaton.
The Hungarian organisers hope that because of the cancellation of the original Dakar many "desert" racers will participate in the Central Europe Rally and will draw similar media focus to the country.
